An apostille is a certificate that is used to authenticate the validity of a document for use in another country that is part of the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. It verifies the signature and seal of the document’s issuer, making it legally acceptable in the receiving country without the need for further verification. Apostilles are often used for documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, diplomas, and legal documents when they need to be presented in a foreign country. An apostille can be place on any document so long as it has a notary stamp on it, a County Clerk authentication or is signed by a recognize by a state official.
